Just up from the Old Bakery in Branscombe lies a small wood pasture made up of ancient ash pollards, once used to supply the bakery with fuel for its bread ovens. Although this usage ended many years ago, the National Trust has continued to manage these old trees in the traditional way to maintain their stability. Sadly Ash Dieback is now threatening these beautiful old trees as well as all ash throughout the country and across all of northern Europe.
